The return of Sherwin-Williams’ workers may revive downtown Cleveland — but not without resistance, "When Cleveland agreed to help Sherwin-Williams build a new downtown headquarters in early 2020, the city was trying to do something familiar: keep jobs, payroll and tax dollars from leaving the city. [....] Cleveland officials offered the company an incentive package worth millions of dollars to make staying attractive. In return, Sherwin-Williams agreed to maintain 3,138 full-time-equivalent jobs in Cleveland and roughly $347.2 million in payroll — an economic base that generated about $8.7 million in city income-tax revenue." But since the COVID pandemic things have changed.... "The result is a 36-story tower standing at the intersection of three competing interests: a company’s push for in-person collaboration, a city’s fight to bring downtown back to life and a workforce that had reorganized life around working from home." And...besides the taxes, the City also expects employees who will be customers at local retail establishments.

"The next wave of development will probably take place at the other end of the property, where the Sherwin-Williams Co.’s former Breen Technology Center occupies about 10 acres off Canal Road. Bedrock bought that real estate in 2023, and Sherwin-Williams recently moved its scientists, engineers and other employees from downtown to a new research and development campus in Brecksville.

Aug. 12, 2026 Penn Live. Popular paint company fined $124k over air quality violations at Pa. plant. "Paint company Sherwin-Williams will have to pay a $124,700 civil penalty after the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection found several violations of the Air Pollution Control Act at the company’s manufacturing plant in Rochester, Beaver County. A consent order with the DEP ruled that the company must pay a penalty after residents in Beaver County reported constant chemical odors inside and outside their homes."
Aug. 13, 2026. cleveland.com Sherwin-Williams leaves Warrensville Heights after decades, taking nearly 600 jobs, $1.3M in city revenue. "Sherwin-Williams has fully vacated its longtime Warrensville Heights research campus, taking nearly 600 jobs and an estimated $1.3 million in annual city revenue with it as the property’s new owner works to redevelop the sprawling site. Sherwin-Williams completed its departure from the Warrensville Heights campus in June, Nicole S. Harris, the city’s economic development director, told cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer Thursday." Who gets? Who pays?
"ICP [buyers of the property] also has received $10 million through Ohio’s Brownfield Remediation Program for environmental remediation and site preparation, according to Harris."
Most of that cost [of redevelopment] is being covered through outside funding, including a $537,625 Ohio 629 Roadwork Development Program grant; a $150,000 Cuyahoga County Community Development Block Grant award and $200,000 through the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District’s Community Cost-Share Program. The city’s general fund will cover the remaining cost.
